Long
u – Reading 1
Luke is in a bad mood. His cute mutt has his boot on the roof. Soon the
sun will set, and Luke can not run without his boot, so Luke will fuss
at the mutt.
“Bad mutt!” yells Luke. “Come off the roof soon!”
“Ruff, ruff,” yells the mutt.
“Mutt, you are a fool!” yells Luke. “If you don’t come off the roof, I
will not feed you food!”
But the cute mutt will not come off the roof. The boot is good, and the
mutt did not want food. Russ will run without his boot. His foot will
look bad, but Russ is cool, so he will not be in a bad mood.
Long
u – Reading 2
Jud has a juke box in his room.
Luke likes to play with the juke box, but he will
not pay. Jud is not rude, but he is a bit mad.
“My juke box is not free,”
he says. “If you want tunes, you must pay.”
“But I am your bud,” says Luke. “Must I pay to play a tune?”
“Yes, you must,” says Jud. “My tunes are that good. If you want cool
tunes, you must pay first.”
“Well,” says Luke. “I want cool tunes, but I don’t want such a rude
bud. My home has cool tunes, too. I don’t need your juke box.”
“Wait, wait!” says Jud. “You can stay! The tunes are free! I don’t mean
to be rude. I am just poor!”
