ESL Conversation and Dialogues

Intermediate Dialogue: Get a Job!

Get a Job!

I’m broke, Dad. Can I have some money?

You are 17 years old. You are old enough to get a part-time job and earn your own pocket money.

But I’m still a student! I don’t have time to get a part-time job!

I know that you spend three hours every night playing computer games and watching TV. If you have time to waste doing that, you have time to earn money.

But Dad, I don’t want to work!

I know you are lazy. Getting a part-time job will be a good experience for you. If you work hard to earn money, you’ll be more careful when you spend it.

  • Do you ever earn money? How do you earn it?

  • Do you know anyone who has a part-time job?

  • How do you get pocket money? What do you like to do with your pocket money?

  • What is a good age to get a part-time job?

  • Make a sentence: I am old enough to __________.

  • Make a sentence: If you __________, you’ll be __________.

-----------------------

Fill in the blanks with a vocabulary word from above:

I want to get a _______________ because I think that it will be good _______________ for me.   Plus, I want to _______________ some _______________ that I can use to buy CDs and comic books.  It is better to work hard and have a little money than to be ______________ and _______________.
